Year 2 learn about Internet Safety

Year 2 learnt all about being safe on the internet from a lovely lady called Sara. She taught us all about making passwords safe and about being careful when  playing online games. Remember the five important things NEVER to give away to ANYBODY online (even if we think we know them!) :- our name, our address, our age, our password and our school name. Do you like the giant-sized keyboard that we used?

Year 1 design and make clay models

Year 1 had great fun designing and making clay animal models.  They turned out really well. Now they are busy painting them.

Valentines Day in F2

Valentines Day happened today and the children in F2 learnt all about it, how we can share our love, kindness and friendship with each other and the special people in our lives.  All the children worked with Mrs Rothery to make their own rose from fondant icing.  The children participated in writing a sentence about one of their friends and what they liked most about them.  We made Valentines cards, paper roses and love hearts.  We had a lovely day!

This afternoon we visited our friends in F1, which was really special.  Our teachers observed many of us joining up with people we know in F1 and showing great excitment about seeing them.  We shared our learning together and explored each others classrooms.

Foundation stage maths champions

We congratulated 3 maths champions this week, as well as 3 maths champions of the half term.  Double thumbs up to all of you, fantastic work!

Planting Seeds

F1 have planted runner bean seeds this week as we have learnt the story 'Jack and the Beanstalk' We did some instruction writing first and drew pictures for each stage of planting in groups.

First put compost in your cup half full
Next put your seed into the compost
After that add more compost to the cup until nearly full
Then water your seed
Finally put your cup on the windowsill

We followed these instructions as we planted our seeds. We are taking them home this half term to look after and watch them grow.

Stars of the week and Mrs Swales

This week we have some shining stars in the foundation stage.  Grace was star of the week for doing some super reading and writing.  Daniel has been choosing his learning really well and using lots of imagination.  Taylor has done some excellent writing and learning the initial sounds of words.  Kia has been very helpful and using kind hands.  Layla has shown she is always learning well and consistently trying hard.  Well done all of you.

We also had an honorary star of the week today, our lovely Mrs Swales.  Mrs Swales said goodbye to us today, as she leaves to start her new job.  Mrs Swales has worked so very hard to care for and teach lots of the children throughout the school and we will miss her so much.  Lots of luck in your exciting new job Mrs Swales.

Chinese New Year in Year 2

Chinese New Year

This week in F2 we have been learning all about Chinese New Year.  Today we made a dragon head and worked together to perfom a Chinese dragon dance right through the F2 classrooms.

Foundation Stage Wow Trees

In the foundation stage we have a wow tree in each classroom to celebrate children's achievements outside of school.  Parents are encouraged to write down news about their child's achievements and bring these in to celebrate in school.  In Foundation 1 this term 'wows' can be written down on the pear shapes.  In F2D and F2W wows can be written on winter snowflake shapes.  In F2A wows can be written on butterflies.

Sharing wow moments helps us to build a picture of the whole child, not just their life in school.  We can build on their interests further and tailor learning to individual interests.  We also enjoy whole class celebrations of individual's achievements and encouraging each other.

Any special achievement is nice to share on a wow and may include things like doing well at swimming lessons, being kind, learning to fasten their own coat, riding a bike without stabilizers etc.  Anything which is an achievement for your child.

The wows are then displayed on the wow trees. Come in and read the amazing things we have been doing!

2S make recycled paper

We had enormous fun making recycled paper out of shredded paper from the school office! Luckily our volunteer helpers Miss Walker and Miss Bateman, together with Mrs Richardson were there to help mop up the excess water! We shall be using the paper to make something special....but that's a secret for now!
